| Frensham
is a remarkable school with a unique history. Founded in
1913 by Winifred West, the school has been ably led by a
succession of headmistresses, who have each furthered the
philosophy of the founders.
Students enjoy a rich academic programme and a diversity of extra-curricular activities. Extensions of class-work include: a full instrumental and choral music programme, drama and music-theatre productions, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, outdoor education, practical and creative arts, theatre and film nights, science extension, museum excursions, interschool visits, debating, mock trial, student forum and national competitions in Mathematics, Science, English, Chemistry, French, Latin and Japanese.
Boarding house life is vibrant, with student and staff-led
activities designed to build a strong sense of community.
The grounds of the school offer a magnificent backdrop for
bushwalking, jogging, cycling and appreciation of the natural
environment.
Sport is viewed as core to healthy development. School sports
include athletics, softball, hockey, gymnastics, skiing,
tennis, cricket, swimming and squash. The school has excellent
sporting facilities including extensive playing fields,
basketball and tennis courts, gymnasium with squash courts,
aerobics facilities and an indoor court for tennis, basketball
or netball and a worldclass synthetic hockey field.
Modern technology throughout the classrooms extends to networked
computers in the Houses, offering 24-hour high-quality facilities.
A Board of Governors oversees the operation of Frensham,
Gib Gate and Sturt. Gib Gate is a co-educational primary
school offering quality education from Pre-school to Year
6. Sturt is Australia's premier Fine Arts School, offering
advanced tuition in ceramics, textiles, wood and jewellery-making
as well as an Exhibition programme, shop, gallery and café.
Frensham is strongly supported by a Fellowship (Alumni)
of "old girls"; a network of friendships and ties
which spans the world.
The staff of the School is dedicated to the health, welfare
and educational progress of each student, with school numbers
limited to ensure that staff are able to guide each student
personally.
An ongoing programme of upgrading and improvement ensures
the highest quality of school facilities.
