Artist Talk and Tea Ceremony

Artist Talk and Tea Ceremony

ARTIST TALK | NEW EXHIBITION | WINTER TREAT

Autumn is a favourite time at Sturt with the garden in full colour and those crisp mornings inspiring a flurry of creativity in all the studios. It is a particularly busy week at Sturt as we prepare for Paul Davis’s much anticipated artist talk, weekend workshops with ceramics, woodwork and textiles, and pre-production of our exciting new exhibition, WEB.

Paul Davis: Artist Talk and Tea Ceremony

If you have not had a chance to visit Paul Davis’ breathtaking ceramic show at Sturt Gallery, treat yourself and visit us during our last few days. Paul’s Under the Influence exhibition celebrating the remarkable 50-year career of the former Sturt Pottery Director and the magnificent Japanese potters who have influenced his practice, runs until this Sunday afternoon. Due to overwhelming demand, we have moved Paul’s artist talk and tea ceremony at 2pm this Saturday to the Frensham campus, CLS, opposite Clubbe Hall. If you would like to join us for this special opportunity to hear about Paul’s fascinating life and practice head to www.trybooking.com/BYAHD.

Catch 'WEB'

We are working on our next exhibition, WEB, celebrating the innovative work of Sally Blake and Nikki Mann, where they will be exploring the complex interconnectivity of all things through glass, textiles, wire mesh and drawing. Sally is a highly acclaimed ACT based artist known for her contemporary drawings, textiles, cyclic patterning, natural dyes and stitched works on paper. Nikki is an award-winning glass artist based in Thirroul, who graduated with first class honours at the ANU School of Art Glass Workshop. Nikki’s work also speaks to the fragility of the environment and her mastery of glass as a medium is astonishing. The official opening by Heather McGregor OAM is on Sunday 29 May at 11am and you would be most welcome to join us. Book your place: trybooking.com/BZHER

WINTER TREAT

We only have a few places left for this year’s Sturt Winter School, 4-8 July for an inspiring, nurturing experience to share with someone special or perhaps on your own for much needed you-time. Many of this year’s workshops are centred around sustainability and renewal and with many new experiences to enjoy this Winter. Spend five creative, restorative days recharging and enjoying oil painting, printmaking, creating silver jewellery, learning pastels, papercutting, felt making, woodcarving, or weaving. You can choose to stay with us on our beautiful Highlands campus, where you can fully immerse yourself in the experience without cooking any meals, waking up with yoga and relaxing with an evening massage. Find out why so many of our students come back year after year. There are 16 adult workshops and five children’s workshops to choose from. Explore  the full programme online: https://www.sturt.nsw.edu.au/education/winter-school or call us on 02 4860 2083 to book.
