WE ARE OPEN
Sturt is thrilled to welcome local visitors again as we gradually start to emerge out of lockdown. Sturt Gallery is now open every day to fully vaccinated visitors and the Sturt Café will be back open every Wednesday to Sunday from this week. The garden is lush and looking its absolute best, making it one of the prettiest café settings in the Highlands – perfect for a fresh air COVID-safe catch up with friends.
Sturt has reached a magnificent milestone of 80 last week making it Australia’s oldest design centre, and to celebrate we are paying homage to the master makers who have made the pilgrimage to live, work and teach at Sturt in our new exhibition, Sturt – 80 Years in the Making. The exhibition brings to life the legends and treasures of Sturt’s Permanent Collection, showcasing ceramics, jewellery, textiles and furniture made here at Sturt over the decades. We hope you will be able to see the exhibition while it is on for the next four weeks, but if you cannot visit in person, you can visit online and take the virtual tour.
WOOD STUDENTS IN THE FLOW
The Sturt School for Wood Students are now working on their much-anticipated chair project with master chair maker, David Upfill-Brown. Term 4 sees the students working on their final piece in preparation for their exhibition, Flow, launching at Sturt on 20 November, the same day as their graduation. The year-long Cert IV Sturt Furniture Design and Technology course is the most comprehensive in the Southern Hemisphere and its graduates are widely acknowledged as the finest furniture makers in the country. Mark Flow in your calendars if you are interested in previewing our designer/makers of the future.
