High Distinction Results
Frensham girls excel
At Frensham we celebrate outstanding academic achievement across the full breadth of subjects on offer. Every year, our students are selected to represent the School in highly competitive areas at state, national and international levels. Some recent highlights include:
- A Year 11 student was selected to join a United Nations Youth Ambassador Tour, representing Australia
- A Year 10 Mathematics Extension group of three students placed in the Years 10-12 section of the National Mathematics Is Our World video competition
- A Year 11 student was placed 3rd in the Your Health Link National Photographic Competition
- At the Model United Nations’ Assembly (MUNA), the Frensham team of three received the prestigious Rotary Peace Prize which recognises skills in debating, negotiating, and consensus building skills
- A Year 12 student was the recipient of the William Mcllrath Rural Scholarship from the University of New England
- Completion of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award by a large number of students, annually
Music & Drama
- A Year 12 student was selected for performance of her monologue in the NSW ONSTAGE Concert of outstanding HSC performancesA Year 12 student was selected for exhibition of her Design Costume work at the NSW ONSTAGE Drama performances
- There were 16 students at Grade 6+ level in the AMEB Music Studies
- Frensham Madrigals placed 1st in the Youth Vocal Ensemble and 2nd in the Youth Sacred Choral sections of the Sydney Eisteddfod
- A Year 12 student was nominated for the HSC Music Concert ENCORE
Visual Arts & Design
- The Design Costume work of a Year 12 student was selected for Exhibition in the foyer of the ONSTAGE Concert – as an outstanding creative work
- One student’s work was accepted for ARTEXPRESS HSC Exhibition
- Three Year 12 students’ works were nominated for SHAPE HSC Exhibition A Year 12 student was a finalist in the HEAD ON Photo Awards
- A Year 12 student was a finalist in the HEAD ON Photo Awards
- Six Year 12 students were selected for the National Art School’s HSC Intensive Studio Practice
- A Year 8 student’s etching was awarded an Honourable Mention in 2017 Young Archies competition
Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM)
- One Year 10 student was selected for a place in the UNSW Women in Engineering Camp
- One student was selected to be an Australian student ambassador to the International Youth Science Fair in Canada
- Three Year 10 students were offered places in the University of Sydney’s Gifted and Talented Science Discovery Programme
- Two Year 8 students gained two of only fifteen places in NSW in an innovative programme at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences
- At the F1-in-Schools State Championships, Frensham Year 10 students beat 28 teams from schools across NSW to win the State Championship in the Cadet Class, also placing 1st in the Best Engineered Car and the Best Team Portfolio categories
English & Languages
- A Year 10 student was awarded the University of NSW Global Assessments (ICAS) highest award - the Gold Medal - in the annual Writing Competition
- A Year 11 student was NSW Runner-up in the Year 11-12 section of the Whitlam Institute’s What Matters? Writing Competition
- A Year 10 student placed 2nd in NSW in Indonesian
- A Year 10 student received a High Distinction in the 2017 ICAS Writing Competition placing in the top 0.1% of the candidature of 78,000 entries across Australia.
- One Year 11 student received a Highly Commended in the annual national Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards
- Three students achieved Perfect Scores in the International Latin Competition
Sport
- Students represented at IGSSA, Combined Independent Schools or NSW representative sports in Cricket, Hockey, Touch Football, Rugby 7s, Cross Country,Athletics and Equestrian
- Frensham was Champion School in the NSW Interschools Equestrian Championships for the 6th year in succession
- A Year 8 student placed 3rd in the Australian Championships in Slopestyle Skiing
- The Division 1 Cross Country Team placed 3rd in the Australian Championships
- Three students represented NSW at National Championships in Cross Country, Hockey and Basketball
