Interschool Sport – IGSSA

A bonus for Frensham is full involvement in the weekly Sydney-based Independent Girls Schools Sports Association (IGSSA), with home grounds to accommodate extraordinarily high participation by more than 90 per cent of girls, every term.

There are 32 schools in the IGSSA competition and Frensham is a home venue. Frensham is the only school outside Sydney that plays in all Saturday competitions.

The IGSSA competition was developed by the Association of Heads of Independent Girls Schools (AHIGS). Its emphasis is on helping girls appreciate the value of physical activity, fair play, teamwork and good sportsmanship while building self-confidence, skill, self-discipline and responsibility. Currently there are four different terms of Saturday morning sport to allow girls to participate in a wide range of sports across the calendar year including Tennis, Softball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Netball, Touch, and Water Polo. Additionally, Frensham competes in IGSSA Athletics, Gymnastics, Swimming, and Cross Country carnivals annually with Frensham hosting the IGSSA Cross Country Carnival.

Fit for the future

Being fit (both mentally and physically) is a central part of Frensham culture. Outside the classroom, we see sport as a great way for students to challenge themselves, uncover talents, build confidence and form strong bonds of friendship along the way.

Professional coaches and teachers support girls to maximise their skills and fitness, and set the highest expectations for student conduct on and off the field.
