About
Pre-School
Nurturing early learning and development.
In Preschool, children are welcomed into a warm and nurturing environment that fosters a positive sense of belonging. As their first experience of being separated from family, the program helps develop respectful friendships and a strong community of learners.
The Preschool program is underpinned by the Early Years Learning Framework and the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education.
Our approach to early childhood education recognises every child as strong, capable, and resilient—brimming with wonder and knowledge. Each child possesses a deep curiosity and immense potential. This natural curiosity drives their desire to explore, understand the world, and find their place within it.
The Reggio Emilia philosophy is built on several foundational principles:
- Children are capable of constructing their own learning.
- Children develop an understanding of themselves and their place in the world through interactions with others.
- Children are effective communicators.
- The environment acts as a third teacher.
- Adults serve as mentors and guides, promoting, documenting, sharing, and reflecting on children’s thinking.
Equally significant is the vital role families play in collaboration with educators, supporting children to grow as confident and capable individuals.
Daily Routine
Sample DayEnriching early education through exploration and play.
Early childhood education is vital for a child’s development, with activities tailored to meet each child’s developmental level, fostering success and building confidence.
Set on a stunning 10-acre site, Preschool children explore the natural bushland, learning about native plants, animals, and seasonal changes. Regular walks around the Frensham Junior School grounds enhance their outdoor education and gross motor skills.
Music lessons are integrated into the weekly schedule, with the Music Teacher actively involved in the teaching team. Children develop musical skills through singing, playing, and movement. Preschoolers also enjoy specialist Library lessons and borrow books from the Frensham Junior School Library weekly.
The broader school program is gradually introduced, including specialist lessons in Music, Physical Education, Performance Assemblies, and participation in the P-6 Musical Production and Preschool Athletics Day. Children also have the option to join the Little Kicker’s Program.
Transition to Kindergarten
Preparing for the next step in learning and growth.
In Term Four, before starting Kindergarten, children participate in the Transition to School Program, which is thoughtfully designed to ease the transition into formal schooling. This program introduces children to the Kindergarten classroom environment and familiarises students with the daily school routines, helping them build confidence and feel comfortable in their new setting.
The Transition to School Program also provides opportunities for children to explore the facilities, understand the expectations of school life, and become familiar with key activities, such as classroom learning, playtime, and special events.
By the end of the program, children are not only prepared for the first day of Kindergarten but are excited and confident about the next step in their educational journey.
